As an ex-apple employee from my home country currently in the US on F1 visa and having applied to numerous jobs, It is good to let the employer/recruiter/hiring manager know everything about your visa and work authorization through your resume before you get to the interview so they are aware. This will ensure that whatever job offers you get are not cancelled later and most companies who are actually looking for F1 OPT or CPT students can specifically prefer you because you mentioned that in your resume.

Not every career dream is realistic. I'm 47. Not going to go back to college, get another 4 yr degree and be a counselor for high school kids. I'm in a bad relationship and unemployed. Sometimes you just need something to get you where you can pay bills.

From Imposter Syndrome creeping back into my worklife, not taking care of my health as best as I should, to feeling guilt about not having strong relationships with family and friends, I need to break this cycle and find more joy. So glad you're in my feed!

I've worked in logging for 16 years. The only real job skills I have are in that industry. I don't know how you can take that and make it seem like those skills can apply to some other job, because most jobs aren't anything like logging. I'm a hard physical worker, and I figured years and years of logging experience would pretty much look good as far as that goes. I need a career change because my commutes are unacceptably long. But no matter what kind of entry level jobs I've tried to get (construction, landscaping, painting, warehouse, etc.) no one will hire me. I don't understand this B.S. And when I was in my 20's it was the same exact garbage back then. That's why I originally stuck with logging, because nothing else ever worked out. But now I'm burned out on it.

I appreciate the effort but this video wasn't very helpful… It seems like you are only giving advice for office/corporate style jobs, and you didn't really explain how to do a follow up in very much detail. You gave an example of a brief paragraph that you could email someone but what if you are applying for a job at a sandwich shop or something like that? Or even say a McDonald's. Should you go in in person? How should you go about finding the correct person to email if that is the way you should approach it, and saying pretty much immediately is vague it would be a lot more helpful if you gave a specific number of days or hours or whatever before you follow up. Also you should go over various things the employer might bring up while you are following up, like even if you just send the example paragraph you used obviously they are going to respond and then what do you do next? I get that it is a brief video and I appreciate that part but pretty much all of my questions are still unanswered and I have watched the entire video. Again I definitely appreciate that you are trying to help people and give good advice I just think there is quite a lot that was only skimmed or skipped over completely👍

Question: What can I offer to the other person? Emily: Being able to help other people make us feel happy. In that sense, when we seek for help, the person who helps you would willing to help you as well. It's not totally taking, but you “give” them the chance to use their expertise to help you. Megan: Patiently figuring out what the other person need, e.g. the goals they are working on in the upcoming month. Inspiring ideas: "Give > Take" "How can I try to offer something that is naturally to me that the other person might or might not struggle with?" Question: What has a job seeker done that really stand out? Or continue building the relationship after the information interview? Responses from the group 1. Follow up and stay connected 2. Send thank you note Emily: So many job seekers network with other people only once, and didn't follow up with them. It's not about how people you meet, but the amount of meaningful relationship you build with people you interested and admired. You can follow up with the person from the last conversation, let say you have applied the advice the person offers you, and this time you wanna talk about the issues or difficulties after applying the advice given, and asking suggestions for improvement or the next step. Through following up, you can turn "one-time meeting" to a new, great relationship. Inspiring ideas: "People love doing business with people they KNOW, LIKE and TRUST. So finding people that are like-minded, similar passion and mission, and build a sincere connection with them. When they need help one day, they would first think about you. And the opposite would also be true, when you need help one day, you would think about them too."
